Anguilla The Spanish bestowed the name 'eel' to this tiny strip of an island in the West Indies - presumably for its narrow shape rather than for the actual 'anguillas' they may have found in the shallow waters. Like its namesake, Anguilla is relatively flat and dry. And though the island is a mere three miles long, it boasts some excellent beaches, clear blue waters and brilliant coral reefs. Due to various wars of the major powers and treaties over the years (for a few days, Anguilla was even connected to St. Kitts & Nevis) the island presently is a dependency of the United Kingdom. * Nationality - United Kingdom * Language - English * Currency - East Caribbean Dollar (EC) * Approx exchange - 2.70 EC to $1 U.S. * Air service (local) - American Eagle, Winair, Tyden Air, Air Anguilla
